Bring your knowledge as a Certified Handler up to date with the latest regulations relating to Acutely Toxic Substances (6.1A and 6.1B)

This moderated course builds upon your existing practical knowledge and experience to become (or renew) your Certified Handler Certification. The course is specifically customised for Vertebrae Toxic Agents.

This course meets the requirements of Parts 4.3 and 4.5 of Hazardous Substances Regulations 2017.


Key Learning outcomes:

  • Demonstrate working knowledge and experience in handling Class 6.1A/6.1B VTA substances in the workplace

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in Inventory Control and Storage (tracking and application records, labelling, and signage)

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Hierarchy of Controls to manage associated risks

  • Demonstrate knowledge in reading and interpreting Safety Data Sheet

  • Demonstrate knowledge of emergency responses

  • Demonstrate knowledge of workplace hazardous substances classification and associated risks

  • Demonstrate knowledge of storage, handling, and disposals


  • Section 4.1 of The Regulations states that only a Certified Handler can handle HSNO class 6.1A and 6.1B.
  • Section 206 of the HSWA states that a PCBU must not direct or allow a worker to carry out work, if
    regulations require the work to only be carried out by a person who is authorised (e.g., Certified Handler
  • Breaches of Section 206 can lead to fines:
    • for an individual, up to $20,000:
    • for any other person (PCBU or Officer), up to $100,000.
